Savage 16 22-250 value and action info ?

Hello again
My buddy has a Savage model 16 ,22-250 wood stock , top feed mag.
Cheap Simmons scope.
He’s asking $700.
Gun is in great shape.

Is the action on a 16 same as a model 10?
And $700 a fair price?
Seems a bit high but it includes 2 boxes of ammo and a bipod.

Also the no magazine capability,

The thing I always worry about with a used 22-250, especially one owned by a less than nutty gunner, is throat erosion and barrel condition. I hate to profile, but people that buy a rifle and throw on the cheapest scope they can buy tend to be the sort of people that don't realize that you can't shoot a 22-250 as fast as you would a 223 and then proceed to cook the barrel.

I hear ya there, but this one came with the scope.
I know the guy and like most around here, he don’t target shoot or hunt.
He bought the gun and scope new and 3 boxes of ammo.
He still got two box’s of ammo left.

I really got no use for it as I just picked up a .204.
Just thought , if the price is right and it’s a model 10 Short Action , maybe.
 
It's not a good enough deal that you can't pass on it. If it was something that you really wanted, that's one thing. But just because it's there doesn't make me think that it's worth picking up on spec. The Savage short action is good, but they're also a dime a dozen. Unless you're planning to build something with the help of someone like Barney who specializes in that platform, I don't see a reason to jump on it. At $500 you jump, not $700.
 
Ya, I’m capable of doing a barrel swap, but your right.
I don’t see much value in a Simmons scope and $500 is enough if someone just wanted the action
