A friend of mine bought a savage 16 lightweight in 6.5 creedmoore. At first inspection I noticed the rear tang was not touching the stock properly. I pulled the stock off the action and noticed the front recoil lug is not supported on 3 sides I was surprised. After torquing the stock down and mounting the scope we fire the rifle with 4 different brands of ammo the best was 3 inch at a 100 yards very bad.

After I pushed with my thumb on the barrel at the end of the forfend and with my other hand and thumb I could feel the action move.

Why would savage build such a cheap stock with such a poor set up.

Was thinking of filling in around the recoil lug with a bedding compound.

Any suggestions.

How long has your friend had the rifle ? If new send back for warranty. Don't screw with it and void the warrant. Just a guess but I'd say there is a defect in the plastic stock and it slipped trough QC. Let savage fix or replace.

Call Savage service dept. they are very fast with service and parts ,,, I broke a site on a savage rimfire ... 6 days later I had my new sights ,, that's right 2 complete sites free of charge less than a week ,,, Why would you bubba the rifle .. without first trying Savage

Those lightweights don't come with the accustock. I suppose it's to minimize weight. First thing is,don't bed the tang on a savage . When sighting in a pencil barrel, you have to wait longer between shots. Allow the barrel to cool completely. If the action is properly torqued and it still won't shoot with a cool barrel, you may be looking at a warranty issue. Crown look ok?
