I am curious to know if anybody else out there has noticed poor machining from Savage. I bought this rifle yesterday and I have noticed marks on the rear face of the reciever, rough edges around the mag well and what looks like a bite mark on the bolt lug. I inspected several today and none look like mine.
Call Savage, take it back to store?????? Let me hear what you think.

My 10FCP looks pristine compared to what you describe... very nice fit and finish IMO.

Might be worth a trip back to the shop, to ask nicely about the source of the blemishes?

You sure you have a Savage and not a Remington? :p

Yah take it back, I have never seen a Savage with the tooling marks you describe.

Where are the pictures to which you are describing?
:needPics:
I heard of a guy who had head space issues and of course the gun was brand new only 6 shots fired all of which where hard to extract and whne the spent shells where placed on a flat surface ( attempting to stand them upright, there wobbled and fell over).
Off for warrenty in Manitoba and gun returned with sfa done for repairs , not to mention the 4 months time in transit to and from repair depot on a brand new firearm.
So, if your thinking of a return I am thinking Good Luck.
But, do keep us posted, so others may have an informed opinion on whether the Savage guns are a good deal.

I know, I know, where are my pictures of evidence....
sorry it wasnt my gun , but did see it with my own eyes too.

Similar quality in a Horribly Dogidson motorcycle eh Bob.
For Clarification , I am not knocking or hacking the original posters choice of firearms.
Others have suggested returning his recently purchased firearm for a refund or an exchange.
I am speaking from experience ( my own .02 opinion ) what I have seen with my own eyes and yes my post is worthless without the photographic evidence for which I speak of.
I do not care what you shoot be it choice of gun or choice of game, nor do I care what car or motorcycle you may drive or ride.
The shooter has a valid concern and I only offer some information to which he or she may use in developing a plan on how to deal with the store or warranty depot.
Thank You TMG, I only wish I had your problem.
Rob or Bob , just so you can remember how to spell my name backwards.
Thank You.

Rob here are some pics. I'm sure most of these issues will not impact performance, however, the money I paid for this is not cheap to me and I want to know if others think I should go back. I didn't say anything to my wife and even she noticed right away, especially the mag well. I am sure it is just a bad cast from the factory.

Are you sure that was not a used gun? The "Machining" marks on the mag housing are casting marks and, although a little more that I have seen, are usualy to a lesser extent.

Not sure about the rear face of the reciever though, looks pretty rough and I have never seen that on any other Savage I have handled.

I was standing there when they opened the box. They had brought it in for me as they didn't have that caliber in stock. As I mentioned earlier I figured it is just a bad cast. I guess I'll try to talk to the shop first, although I am sure all marks are from the factory, and then maybe Savage?

I just knew you would have an answer like that. lol

Looks to me like someone was trying out a file in the factory - kinda like when a restaurant server spits on your food.

Hey guys, thanks for the input. I went back to the shop today to see what could be done. Walked in and mentioned my concerns; a phone call insued and replacement will be here early next week. When I phoned Savage I was told to send it to Manitoba so I went back to the shop instead. Chalk this one up to experience. Next time I'm in doubt I won't even take it home.
