hey folks ......just had to buy a Savage 16fcss chambered in .308......never had a savage before, I'm a Tikka lover [ 3 of them ]....what kind of accuracy can I realistically expect with factory ammo ?.....I can get under moa with all my Tikka"s......I have heard lots of good things about Savage but have no experience with them.....can they compete with Tikka ?...anything I should be aware of ? etc...I felt that the Savage in a caliber like the .308 should be a very accurate combo.....If you own one what brand of ammo/bullet weight works best in yours ?...........anybody out there got one ? [ this model has the accustock and accutrigger ] ....please give me some feedback and make me feel good about my purchase.......lol
 
I bought the same rifle in 260 last year its turned out to one of the most accurate rifles I've seen like right up there. I'm the kind of guy that likes to tinker with rifles but I couldn't really find anything to do. I took off the stock and there's about zero point bedding them the aluminum pillars in the accustock lock tight to the action very well. The only thing I did was tune the trigger down see the instructions its dead easy. I did give up on accubond long range bullets with my rifle just didn't seem to like them compared to others, but I didn't real hard either. But ttsx, amax and fusion bullets shoot under moa, under 1/2 moa in some instances and working up loads was easy. I suspect you'll have good results with your 308 too :)

I never tried the long range accubonds, but my savage in .308 likes the regular accubonds, it cut my groups in half vs blue box federal or winchester power points.

I've only ever really used low end hunting ammo, but even so the rifle seems more accurate than i will ever be.
 
You won't go wrong with a savage. Guys on here cry about how "cheap" they are. I don't know what's cheap? Every factory rifle now adays comes with a cheap Tupperware stock. But the rifle itself is amazing. The action is great and if you go in the precision forum guys use them for very expensive builds. They are reliable and have no design flaws at all. Barrels are great too. Everyone knows savage is known for its accuracy. IMO all savages with good hand loads will shoot sub moa all day. I have owned sakos and sold them. Because I sold them at a used price and was still able to buy a nice savage with a top notch scope(most important part of a gun) and still have money left over for a case of beer. I'll shoot any of my savages against anyone's sako on here. If there groups are 0.1" better then mine. Oh well the moose is not a judge of 0.1".
 
I have a savage 16fhss in 260rem, shooting barnes vortx ttsx and nosler partitions both sub moa, ttsx a hair tighter than the paritions

I've recently ordered a PTG bolt body for it, and will get a timney trigger soon, not that there is a legitimate need to swap it out, just personal preference

haven't shot any hand loads through this rifle, but in another savage 7-08 it didn't like hot loads, stuck ejector, I think the ejector could be more robust
