savage .17 hmr, what ammo?

My Savage seemed to like the Hornady rounds best, do yourself a favor stay away from the Winchester ammo i tried it and ended up having way to many misfires. I have spoken to other individuals at the range and they had some issues with Winchester as well! I have put at least 2500 rounds of Hornady down range and never had one single issue. 17 or 20 grain take your pick? hope this helps!

I've only had Hornady and CCI in mine. It loves Hornady Vmax 17 Grain. 10 shots could be covered with a dime. CCI crap looks like someone was patterning a shotgun. I had heard all 17hmr was the same stuff basically so locally I got some CCI, put one box through almost sold the rifle in frustration. Bought some Hrnady, just to see, and now it's my baby.

Federal 17gr vmax works best with our group of Hmr's(6 of them)
3 of them are BTVS's
Hornady is close 2nd, cci and winny are garbage!

My Savage likes both the Hornady 17 gr Vmax and the Winchester 17 gr Vmax. Here's a recent range pic from shooting off the bench using a bipod.
I bought some of the winchester ammo before I heard about all the problems, but its been working great for me.

Do not get winchester.

cci and winny are garbage!

Winchester cases split, do not use them. Hornady work great

I guess that I have just been lucky.I use Winchester Supremes in my Cooper, and to date, not one split case, and not one misfire. They shoot great as these five shot 50 yards groups confirm.

Stubble, that ain't no savage. I'm guessing the slight larger chambers in the savage might have a lot to do with it.

Why so far off of center??? :)
