I bought a new savage 17hmr with the cheap synthetic stock, but accutrigger.

Now I might by a new stock for it at some point if the price is right.

But for now what would be the best way to get rid of the ridge cause from the two halves of the stock being melted together? sand paper? knife? both?
Also what is the best option for getting a higher cheek piece on this gun?

TIA

EDIT: I guess I will ask here if anyone knows if I can get a hi cap mag for this gun somewhere?

I'd just get a stock from boyd's, I did. The tacticool runs for $130 with shipping and the laminate stocks go for $30 less.

My tacticool feels nice, and allows me to rest my cheek on the stock while looking down the scope.

Some guys say they trimmed it off with an exacto blade. I'd say the scalpel like blade would be good if your hands are steady.

I run a TACPRO cheek rest on mine it was 50 bucks from mystic precision, having said that, if you can, go all out and get the boyds tacticool. I have one on my rem 597 and may get one for my Savage.

Hmm that looks about perfect. Trying to keep this rig under a budget here. lol
It's a lite barrel not a a heavy too so not sure how the boyds would fit. Although for 100 bucks it might be the best option still....
But at least I have options now. Thanks.

i just scraped off that junk with a razor blade... it works very well if you just hold the razor blade up right and drag it across the ridge... that way you dont take chunks out of the stock and just smooth it out :)
