And I use em!

Great pics Duffy and love the "camo", reminds me of my Dad :) I grew up with Savage 99's as thats what the men packed in our family, some in .308Win and some in .300Sav. and one of my older brothers had both. My BIL was the exception and used a Win M71 .348 until he bought the new M70 Westerner in the newly introduced .264WinMag (kept the .348 too) I've had several M99's in .300 & .308 and like 'em. But then, I like Marlin, Winchester and Browning lever actions too ;)

I'm not a fan. I have one is .250-3000.

-They look fugly
-The action feels really stiff compared to my Mod. 94
-Its much less pointable than my Mod. 94
-The internal brass rotary mag makes it heavier than i think it should be
-I scoped it and hated it even more! Threw off the balance way too much and made it less than desirable to shoot and carry. Much to heavy for a lever action IMO

Ever since I bought my .30-06, it's been a safe queen. Probably been about 8 years since it's had lead fly through it.

I've always felt they were, hands down, the ugliest rifles I've ever seen.

That, and reports of very hit-and-miss triggers, and very hit-and-miss accuracy, has always kept me away from them.

If I every come across an inexpensive one in .308 win that I can handle and shoot first, well, I may end up taking one home, just to see what all the nostalgia is about...

Got over 40 of them so I guess I fall into the "love" category.

Actually just got back from the range after sighting in a 375, 284 and a 300 Savage for deer season, ya, I know it's still early.

Love them.
My Grandad was a guide/trapper out of Hope BC. 99 in .303 Savage. i have it and it continues to shoot well to this day:)

Personally I love how they handle, point and feel so I can totally understand the draw to them.

I currently have one I inherited from my father in law, it was his dads and is in 25/35 (6.5x52R) that dates to 1909... I haven't shot it yet (lack of ammo) and I really don't know what I'm going to do with it. But each time I pick it up I get even more attached to it... Damn it, lol.

Some have shown interest and then forget about it, lol.
I'd love to know what it's worth.

there was an 1899A(round barrel) in 25/35 @ the Martensville Gunshow on the weekend for $750 ... it was a serious beater...

I've got a pre WWI 303 and '24 300 take down. While the lever has fallen down the pecking order to the vintage bolts I've got, I still find the 99 was way ahead of its time and a smooth shooting/operating gun.

I like 'em. Had one in 300. It was nice but i moved on to something else for now. Bogie had a '99c in .308 i almost jumped on not too long ago...Maybe next time i get some cash put away i'll look for one. Or a winchester 88 or... :)

I will admit the style is not for everyone. I find it reminds me of the Grohman DH Russell knife. Graceful curves that lend to a practical shape. Nothing shoulders as well for me as a Model 99. I just bought a rough 300E for a winter project and I would love to have one in 243. Problem is that 243's are as scarce as hens teeth around these parts.

as a youngster away back, I loved looking at them in the catolog and always dreamed of getting one. But for some reason I never did get one until much much later in life, I had old eyes by then! When I finally did get one, I scoped it, and the looks went away down the drain! Too much roll down on the stock, I guess. The eye pc looked like it was in the sky! I mounted it as low as possible, but still, I didn't like it. I ended up with a few 99's after that, but later found that the Aurthoritis in my hands would not allow me to cycle the action without plenty of pain. You know, the tight spot in there when it's cocking, that when it hurt. So, all my 99's are now gone except for one in 300 Savage. I don't use it, I just have a big heart for that cartridge. I'll let her go when I find another style of rifle in 300. Anyone got a trade?

Just had my 1946 Savage 99 to the range, testing out handloads. I absolutly love this gun and everything about it. Handles greats, fells great, recoil is fine, action is flawless. And every other shooter at the range came over and took a look at it and had very favourable comments about it. One of my handloads was averaging 2690 fps, for a 300 Savage, so I extremely happy !!

just bought one the other day a 99e in 308,,,,the only gun im aware of that made numerous changes without mods...black to smokeless, flat to pointy bullets, iron-scopes...just makes sense to me....where i hunt

I have a 99 Savage 303 lever that l may put on CGN for sale.It has a somewhat rusty barrel,a small piece of wood missing from the foot of the stock .Its not pitted and the rifling is great.I have over a box of shells too.Didnt have the nerve to refinish the old thing.Anybody think l would get much interest?

Shooter's Choice in Alberta has had a Remington 700 in 300 Sav for a few months now. It might be your ticket back to shooting 300.

If you have some good pics, I might have a look. The optimum words being "might" and "look."

Interest would be inversly proportionate to the price asked.
