MD...........and Senior
Mr senior ....the fact that " joe" has bought and sold more savage levers than this whole forum , indicates amongst other things, that he was a good grasp of collector values buying and selling them and as indicted, is a collector and as such has a vested interest in maintaining the savage levers price ceiling so that it doesn't reach USA prices (as per his own statement ..I don't pay US prices) ....no arguements.
If someone comes to the forum to specifically ask what the collector value is , no doubt "joe" will tell him the truth....what, in his opinion collectors will pay for that rifle....no arguements.
If someone just asks what the savage lever is worth, a new value comes into play. Savage levers , in the SIR catalog "near "the time of its being discontinued, were selling for $693.49 (1989-90 issue). Win. Model 70, Rem 700 and Browning a-bolts for less and a Ruger # 1 for $699.00. These levers were fairly expensive rifles to make and no doubt why they quit selling them.
However, these same rifles still have a value that non collectors will pay for in a good, safe , working order. and it is higher than collector value. There are no more new 99's, so if a person wants one, $350 to $450 is the going price, and as such, are sold quite fast at the gunshows.....ever see a used Ruger # 1 for just $450.00...I think not., so good Savage levers , as hunting rifles, still fetch 50 to 60% of their 1989 value even if made much earlier.
To noncollectors, an "old Savage" that has been reblued, stocks refinished and properly "D/T'd" for a scope is more desireable because we don't have to do any thing but hunt and shoot with it.
The rifle in question starting this post, if in the shape as described, wouldn't last 10 minutes at a gunshow for $350 because many of us own and others would love to own, a 100 yr old rifle to hunt with.

...........
The 7mm08 , 99C that I own has 90 +% blueing, and other than a slight flakeing of the gloss finish ,where the wood meets the butt pad is in great shape.
I am the second owner and as it sometimes goes, got it in a 3 way trade that a friend started.. "A" wants a 32 Rem Pump from B and doesn't want his 7/08 any more, "B" wants a 30/06 pump rem.....I've always wanted a Savage lever and got a 06 pump in trade a while back...so everyone ends up with what they want. So that makes it a " $200" 99c in 7/08.
My 7/08 will shoot 3 different bullet weights under an inch/100yds/ 3 shots ,and thats why I keep it and don't care if it's worth $1300 US+ ....or $500 cdn. when it will eventually be a "Grey rat" as you say.
......just one opinion and I'm sure the others will.....vary
