I've just aquired a nice savage pump 22 with the 23 inch Oct. barrel. ( I'll post pic's soon). Other than a bubba'd ( non-invasive thank god ) repair on the magazine tube, it's awesome.
Got it home and cleaned up and... it's got a finicky taste in what rounds it will digest. It hates Super-X; will not feed at all from the magazine. Of course you know that that is the 1st box I grabbed, LOL. And it didn't click right away; fast forward to a growing certainty that I'd purchased a lemon...
I'd seen pic's from another member of their Savage pump; I thought it was the same model. If they were to read this and have an opinion on what their gun likes I'd really appreciate their input.
And I will update this post with pic's in the next day or so.
Thanks Tokguy

With the age of the gun, I would think that it would perhaps use shorts or longs. The LR will probably jam up as it may be too long for the action. Is anything stamped on the barrel? In some of the older guns i have, the round nose solid ammo worked much better than the rough hollow points.

I just use Rem 22 shorts in my Savage model 25, it's just for plinking with, it feeds them perfectly but after I tried to shoot a box of LR out of it it jammed a couple times. Found out it was only cause it needed to be cleaned cause the chamber got gunked up from the shorts.

My 25 is the model Savage went to after they ended the 1914, not much difference in the two.

Oh it's an S.L. & LR. The rims on The Super X must be a hair larger in OD because they hang up like a bugger. Rem and Federals seemed OK but I had a handfull.
Nice gun but it looks like a watch mechanism inside; it's a take-down though, that's pretty cool.

Oddly enough, last Saturday I was telling one of the ladies that I work with at P & D that .22 "longs" are no longer manufactured, then what do I find, cases of brand new CCI .22 long. Did I feel a bit stupid or what......betcha those would work quite well in your Savage!
