Anyone have any thoughts on why the bolt on my 220 locks up occasionally after firing a round. The issue has happened four times to me and twice I almost didn't think it was going to open. I'm shooting the Hornady sst 250 gr sabots. It's almost as though the safety gets flipped on and the bolt handle won't lift up.
Any other 220 owners experience this? The only other bolt action rifle I have is a .243 and I've never encountered this with the .243. Thanks

Check to make sure there is no interference between the bolt itself and the screws that fasten the scope rail to the receiver. I had a similar issue but in reverse when the screws were too long. The screws for the 12g receiver are too long. If that is eliminated as a cause, then I would try a different brand of ammo. Savage recommends Remington and iirc Federal sabots in the instruction manual.

Thanks for the suggestion. Checked the rail screws. I looked at it with a bore light and felt around with my finger. There is no interference that I can see or feel. The bolt moves without any resistance and the ammo feeds and ejects without issue. Hmmm...

You could try using different ammo, but best bet is to bring that to savage and ask them about it. Good luck
