Model 12BVSS or Model 12 Long Range Precision Varminter in 223 cal.

She likes my 12F/TR in 308, (no kick) so before I have someone cutting into my shooting time, I should get her one.

Opinions on these rifles, would be appreciated or if you think another Savage would be more fitting & fancy, must be 223 caliber. She'd also like a wood stock.
And no she won't be getting her own 12F/TR (It would probably shoot more accurate than mine).

Just give her yours now and save yourself the pain and suffering later at the range. I gave up and now I just reload, I don't get to shoot anymore she has claimed them all. When you buy her her own rifle she is going to think it is because it will not shoot near as good as yours, thus she will wan't to still shoot yours, which she will shoot better then you and of course better then the rifle you buy for her, and you scope will be clearer, brighter, more accurate and easier to adjust then the same scope mounted on her rifle, why?? well because thats just the way it goes when your better half shoots with you. Take up trap, guaranteed she will only hit birds with your shotgun and not hers, thus you'll buy a new one, which works better for her.

Oh buy the way go for the model 12 long range rig. the bvss is nice but the lrpv is nicer. both models with the accu trigger are incredible for the price you pay for out of the box accuracy.

i own a low profile varminter model 12. great gun, with handloads right now im printing about 5 rounds inside a dime at 100 yds. if you are looking for any sort of accuracy out of it, hand load. the store bought match ammo blows. out of federal and remington, federal shot better, but at 100yds i was getting 3 inch groups. the mod 12 has a fairly long chamber, so you can seat the bullets farther out, mine sit about half an inch taller than factory match ammo with the same 69grain match bullets.

Rifling Rate of Twist 223 Rem (1 in 9" or 1 in 7")
204 Ruger (1 in 12")
22-250 Rem (1 in 12" or 1 in 9")
6 Norma BR (1 in 12")
So the 1 in 7 would be for heavy bullet and the 1 in 9 for light?
 
I have shot some friends Savages 12s at Range at 100 to 300 y in .223 rem
they shoot extreemly good 1.5" at 300y, with 69gr Sierras but one with a 1/7 twist withn 80gr Sierra's was under 1" at 300y and generaly better in wind.
but there actions are not smooth like Rem 700 xcr's

Yes 1:9 for lighter bullets up to 69-75 grains.

1:7 twist for heavier bullets allowing you to get out further.

We shoot .223 in Precision to 800 yards and some on the forum are way out past that distance like mysticplayer.
 
If she likes the feel of wood (no comments please), the BVSS is real nice. I also love the low profile stock but better suited for hunting/field use.

Ideally, if you want to win max points, pick up a 12FV and install in a stock of her choosing. You'll end up spending about the same but she will love the way it looks as it will be HERS.

Until she gets bored of it, then your rifle is TOAST.

These are problems every shooter should have.

When I get to use it, the coyotes, magpies, pigeons and crows, better hide.

The bipod is on there just for the pic, we do all our shooting from bags.
I have learned I don't like bipods, when I turn it around, it collapses and the barrel hits the table. Errr. It will only be put on if I must use it to shoot. Do they make them, so the legs lock open, with no posibility of collapsing?

Hmmm, never had that happen, but I guess it would be possible under heavier recoil. I am not sure on ones that lock open, as all I've used is my Harris. The springs on mine I find quite stiff though, and with my SPS varmint in .308 I doubt I have ever had mine even close to flipping up while shooting.
 
Give us a range repot on the new scope. I like my fixed powered 36's and my power bumped leupold, 48 power but would love a couple variables with that power range. Great choice on the rifle by the way. :D

Best addition I made to my Harris was a pod lock. That has really increased its shootability.

I am glad that you still believe one of those rifles is consider yours.

My new Digi camera that I received as an anniversary gift is mine when the camera needs batteries or a download.

Otherwise, don't see it very much....:wave:

Bipod colapsing

I went out and bought another bipod, a Harris S-BRM 6-9. Oh what a difference. The Harris springs are twice as strong as the china nockoff.
It will be put on the 12F/TR.
Maybe if I weld the nockoff solid it will be as strong as the Harris! Doubt it!
 
Nice rifle. Repeater model?

I have the same in a 22-250 and love it. It is not an offhand rifle but from the bench it is a pleasure to shoot. I have a Burris Signature on mine and have no complaints on the rig as a whole with the exception of the bolt handle.

I had to fight to get mine in last year, and I'm glad to see that they are more readily available now.

Ahhh, glad to hear thats working better for you. I've never tried one of the knock-offs so I had no idea the springs would be that much weaker. Was thinking you must've been shooting one heck of a cannon to get the harris to fold up from recoil lol.
