Savage 23AA

I have a 23AA Sporter with one original magazine and two extra, one is a 10 round. Can someone take a look down the barrel of their 23AA and let me know if the rifling is fairly shallow. I bought this one for my shooter buddy, and after cleaning all the crap out, the rifling looks pretty shallow.

Well, rifling is pretty shallow. Most rifles only have .002” to .005” deep rifling, which is 1-2 sheets of paper thick, or approximately the thickness of a human hair. A .22 will usually have a bore of .216 and grooves of .220, which means only .002 deep rifling.

Okay. Thank you. It just seems that the rifling on this little rifle was more shallow than what it should be. When the weather warms a bit, I'll take to the range an try it out.
