Savage 24 .22LR and .410 at auction

Hello,

Not sure where to post this. Shotguns or Rim fires. There is a local auction in a couple days with a Savage 24 with .22 LR and .410. I went to see the auctioneer. He is a friend and he says it is 'very good'. I have Gun Digest Book of Modern Gun Values. But it is an old book. Inside has a copyright date of MCLXXVI. I'm guessing that means 1976. Used value at $50 to $65. What do you think that 'very good' gun is worth today? Probably not much more?

Buy the way, the 2 guys on the cover of my gun values book look like they have Brylcreem in their hair. I can still hum that toon.

Maybe I should sell the book and buy the gun.......Second thot.... I'll most likely keep looking.

Bid up to $100. $100 is a steal, $200 is still a bargain. If it goes higher , how much do you want it? I would pay up to about $250, maybe $300( condition) but for the .22/20gauge Model 24c.

I had a adsentee bid at Bud Haynes last fall on a early Model 24 - 22/ 20ga. High bid was $450.00. Average I've seen is around the $350.00 mark for VG condition.

If you don't mind, where and when is the auction? and no I won't bid on the Savage as I don't care for 410. If it was 20ga I'd be your competition.

Chances are the .410/.22 has properly factory regulated barrels.Mine patterns like a baseball AT 20 YARDS!I'll bet the 20ga doesn't.Many don't hit within 3 ft of the rifle barrel.Common complaint poor QC .Only combo cruder is the Baikal........................Harold

The .410 ones sure have lots of choke! Too much, actually. But not bad for "sluicing/ground swatting" grouse as it allows one to go for a headshot.

I had one of the 20 Ga/.22lr ones with a plastic stock, sold it as it was heavy and I couldn't hit a dam thing with the shotgun barrel.
 
Had a 30-30/20ga and the shotgun barrel was worthless! At least a yard low from the rifle sights.The rifle shot 1" groups at 75 yards .Too bad the QC was non existant......Got rid of it......................Harold
 
The one I shot was a .410 and .22 and the shotgun pattern was horrible. It wasn't a full choke though. The only good thing about it is that you could shoot a slug out of it. The .22 was dead accurate at 30-50 yards. If I found a decent shape one for under 200 I would take it.
