Hi guys, i got a savage 24 earlier this year for a grouse gun up at the cottage. Its a great gun but the forearm keeps falling off to the point where i'm having serious thought of using some wraps of duck tape to keep it on. My question is does anyone know if i can get a new or stronger spring for the forearm. For being 20+ years old its in amazing shape and i would hate to put tape on it. Also anyone know of some sling mounting options?

If it's the "wavy" Forend Spring you're talking about, sometimes a strong tap with a hammer will flatten the spring a tad, this will increase it's length and sometimes cure a loose forend.

There is the Forend Spring, and there is the Forend Spring Spring. IIRC, the FSS pushes the FS into place, and the FS actually keeps the forearm snug to the barrel.

The "piece of steel" you mention is probably the Forend Spring.
