hey guys, happy holidays. i have a savage 24H-DL 22mag/20ga that i love to use for grouse and bunnies however i'm chasing ghosts trying to sight the 22mag in. i haven't shot it since sept and off the top of my head i would say it was shooting about 10in low at about 25 yards! that was with the rear adjuster at the highest notch. so i'm thinking i might have the wrong front sight on (it didn't come with a proper front sight...maybe for this reason). i ordered a front sight by application from numrich (its the metal one) and it sits about 10mm (.394in) off the barrel. from all of the pics i can find on the web the sight looks correct however it would seem i need one about half as tall as the one i have now. so my questions are, does anyone know of a lower front sight for the savage 24 and where to find one?

if i'm not able to/or finding an acceptable front sight is out of the question i was thinking of slapping on a red dot sight on the barrel mount. i'm not a huge fan of going this route, however if it means i can start hitting things with the 22mag i'm all for it. has anyone done this? i've heard that with the 3/8 scope mount and the tight contour of the 22 barrel could cause clearance issues with the dovetail base screws. thanks in advance...i've been trying to figure this out for about 3 years now and am getting nowhere fast.

Do you own a file? If you do it is pretty easy to make the front site shorter. Making them longer is a ##tch so go slow and set the rear site at mid height to start with, so you have adjustment both ways when you are done.
