I recently acquired one of these. It is in very good condition, 22/20ga. It seems to be missing the part that locks the action closed. It won't c0ck either. Can't seem to find the schematic for that type of release. The Series S I found has the top lever shown. Can anyone direct me to the front release schematics?

Thanks in advance!

It might not be in very good condition if it is missing parts no longer made or obtainable... you will probably have to dismantle it to determine why it doers not c o c k. Are you handy in that department?

A quality picture of the action you have is worth a lot in determining what's what ... and pictures are ever so easy to post. Just use the "insert image" link beside the paperclip symbol and choose the photo from your computer or phone, which ever you are using and where the photo is stored.

This one has the opener in the trigger guard. I'll be taking it to a gunsmith. The firearm is in good condition appearance wise.

I see, I was thinking of the S model with the side lever not the model with the triggerguard release. I didn't see any schematics of that varient anywhere online. There is also a savage 24 forum where you could ask for advice.Screenshot_20251206_225503_Chrome.jpg

Well, I had a nice fellow offer me the part that I thought I needed, so I went to the shop and had a better look. I took the trigger guard off so I could get at the trigger and the the release lever. I worked it back and forth and, lo and behold it actually locked up, plus I could get it to c0ck. So...I will take it to the gunsmith and have him clean it up properly.

mcpiper, that is the model I have. I have a 24H-DL I bought new c. 1967 in 22/20ga. Great old gun. Smoked many a Prairie chicken and ruffed grouse, and a few gophers. It shows the marks of being carried thousands of miles in the truck.

Definitely cool old guns. I lived in Northern Ontario for the last 6 years and somehow ended up with 6 or 7 of them for grouse etc. Here are a few pictures of some of the herd. Be careful, they tend to multiply in the gun safe lol.

mcpiper: That is quite a nice family you have. I did own a 24 deluxe that was a good mate for my 24H-DL, but it was a 22magnum/20ga. I knew I would not likely ever use it so I sold it.
