Thinking of possibly listing my savage model 24 410/.22 over/ under. Don’t see any for sale, it’s in excellent + condition. Haven’t a clue what it’s worth, was hoping to get some ideas from those who’d know to see if it’s worth selling or not.

They seem to come up fairly regularly in the EE for ~$500 mark. Give or take depending on condition. I dont know if theres any value variation based on the letter series. Hopefully a savage afficionafo chimes in.

So many different variations, and it will determine the price as much as the condition IMHO, do some research on it and find out exactly what model you have then you'll have an easier time getting a value. Value is also what someone is willing to pay. Great bush guns have had a few.

One sees them typically $450-$600. As stated, it's condition. Good original finish, case colouring, minimal scratches and dings.

One of the best grouse guns, light years ahead of the modern monstrosity that is the model 42.

Other than all the plastic and the looks is there anything functionally different that makes the 24 better than the 42?

The sights are junk on the 42 but either Skinner sights or and EGW rail with a scope or a red dot solve the problem. I have both 24 and 42 . The lightweight Takedown 42 is a perfect backpack/atv gun. All that plastic takes beating and still goes bang! I find some the 24 combinations noticeably heavier on a long days hike.
I don't know why more companies make combination guns as I think they are missing a great market share. Very practical for my area. When used 24 go for $300 to $900 I'd say there's still demand for this type of firearm.

Got $600 for my 22/20 ga series p on a trade (with Burris scope on top). I was told that this gun store gets phone calls every couple weeks looking for the 24's but everybody wants the 410, not the 20 ga and he would've given me a little more if it was a 410. As already mentioned model does make a difference. The campers seem to go for the highest price. That being said I would think you should be able to get $600 minimum.

Campers companion is the one I'm most interested in finding, the go for a premium that's for sure. But I would pay for a high quality one! The .410 are probably the most common ones that usually become available.

Had a 42. Worst plastic Tupperware stock ever. Horrible trigger, sights. It is overpriced new, don't sell used. Everything about them screams cheap and.fragile. The 24 is.a tank, and really not.pretty. The 42 is fugly, and screams Bic lighter.

IIRC, the rail was over $80 plus. Since the 42 is not.popular, it.would.be a search.

I have a 42. I must be the exception, I find it to be a solid piece, preferable to the Chiappa double badger which I also own.

As far as combo guns go I just picked up a Baikal in 12ga over .223 rem, I had it out recently and the sights seemed reasonably well regulated. I wanted something a bit different than the standard 22/410 guns around and am very happy with this setup. I know a couple other guys with Baikals in 308 and 30-06 under 12ga and they are happy as well.

I've always wanted a 22lr/20ga 24. It always seemed to be the best setup.for me.

I picked one up a few years ago for $250 from a guy that was happy to hear I was giving it to my sons. He even gave me a case, a box of .22 and also a box of 20g ammo. The stock is banged up a bit and it has had it's fair share of use, but I think pricing them in the $600 range is high, but yet that is what some people are getting for them now.

Interesting. I would have figured the 20ga would be more popular because there is at least two 410/22 combo guns still made and available new (chiappa and savage)

I've been tempted to buy 42 a few times. They were on sale for like $280 around Christmas last year or the year before... I have no love for the 410 though. If they still made a 20ga I would have bought one.

I have a baikal 22/410, lighter than the 24 I had before, and the 410 takes chokes. The tang barrel selector is quick but I like the exposed hammer of the 24.
Ugly, but fairly tank like. Cool front post that kind of adjusts like a ar15 front sight. Wish they were fibre for low light.
The 42 having an open choke, and being of questionable quality, turned me off them.

Just something to consider if anyone looking at this thread for a 42 vs 24, and now vs baikal mp94 perspective.
I also would of liked a 20ga option over the 410. I'm quite happy with 20ga performance of my single shot, I'm not sure about this 410 yet.

The 42 got a lot of negative reviews/ press when it was reintroduced, yes it's all "plastic" and not the most aesthetically pleasing as some would say. I'm on my second ( Sold the first to get the new Takedown Compact version) and besides the factory sights and heavy trigger ( sights are an easy fix) it's perfect for a bush gun IMHO and if they came out with a 20g I would get one as well.

I wasn't expecting to hear that either when he told me. You see alot more of the 24 410's come up for sale as well. I always thought the 20 would have more value. Maybe that was just a line he gave me though. If it was 410 might have said the 20s were worth more.

As I have posted before, I bought a new 24H-DL 22/410 back in 1967 or around then. It has served me well. Accurate little .22 barrel. A few years back, a fellow approached me at the Saskatoon show and asked if I would be interested in a 22mag/20. I went to his house the next morning and lo and behold, a 24C-DL, almost a perfect match for my old faithful. It now sits beside my 24H-DL.

BTW, contrary to popular belief, not all C series are "Campers", at least the one I have isn't.View attachment 126823

I had the same one as you've posted and regrettably sold it, the deluxe is a nice version.

I have to agree with you, I also have a Baikal beauty in a 22 mag over 20 gauge. Perfect combo in my opinion.

The 24 may be the only Savage combo gun they bothered to regulate the barrels on.It's the only one I've kept. The new 42 is junk.........Harold
