Savage 24

That's true of all mechanical devices.

I bought this one used. I don't know how used, and I don't know how many rounds it will take to wear it out. But apparently I have been more fortunate than you with the Savage 24. I may not be the only such case.

I picked up one in 30/30 over 20ga last fall. I think this combo is about the best for all around hunting and can use pointy bullets for the 30/30.

While I haven't used it yet, I do expect problems with the extractor as it seems weak pulling out fired cases. This may improve with cases fired in this gun instead of another. We'll see. I'd like to get it to work well as I tend to see more grouse when deer hunting than deer. I put an older Redfield scope on it, so the iron sights won't be a problem.

my 30-30/20 gauge is a keeper. barrels shoot to same point of aim at 50 yds using win rifled slugs, and i probably wouldn't shoot a slug much beyond that anyway. sold a 22mag/20 to a buddy last year, both are full choke, and both have killed a lot of pigeons at surprisingly long ranges. never had any extraction problems, and have owned four different variations of this gun, rimfire and centerfire. haven't had anything to do with the newer ones though.

Well I love a thread that provides opinions from both ends of the spectrum!

Here's my humble, never-heard-of-the-Savage-24-before-today question. Where can I find a replacement trigger guard? From what I can tell, what I got today is a .22lr over .20ga, "S" series Savage 24. I am taking care of this slightly-abused gun, making it look better; and the trigger guard is cracked at the front screw hole. :(

Thanks for any input,

Lou

One of the first guns I fired was a 24 chambered in .222/20. I'd love to pick one up for the memories. The one I shot is sitting on the bottom of the Liard river:(.
