I REALLY want one of these, I am hoping to find on around x-mas time once I have some $$$ put aside and have boughten a few other guns higher up on my want list (its always growing!!! :( ). What are the pros ands cons of the savage 24C? This is gonna be used primary for hunting rabbit or grouse, camping and backpacking. What should I expect to pay for one in good-great condition?

Thanks, UTAF

My cousin had one and it was in good condition and I think he got around $375.00 for it. I hunted with it many times. It was a 22LR/20gauge. They are a fun gun but for the weight and the fact they are a single shot I'd rather just carry a 20 gauge in pump or semi.

Well this won't be my MAIN hunting gun...and the weight factor isn't to big of a deal for me as its basically like carrying 2 guns but lighter.

I have one and the advantage of mine is it's accuracy with 20 Gauge Slugs, really excellent out to 100 yards. The shotgun and rifle aren't regulated but you can learn kentucky windage. The 22 is very accurate. The shotgun patterns well but not past 25 yards with it's IC choke. Light and handy...very good gear. I bought an ace insert in 30-30 and it shoot's 3" groups at 100 yards.

Got one from my grampa when he died a few years ago. Neat little gun.

Pros:
2 guns in one. On the wing/running? .410 Sitting still? .22 headshot.

Cons:
Heavier than just a .410 or a .22
Little long (24 inch barrel on mine) for trampin around under spruce trees.
Good luck finding a good one for under 500 bucks :)

I bought one in .222/20 ga a bunch of years ago for a coyote calling gun. I figured on using the shotgun for close coyotes and the .222 for those who stopped farther out.

I shot several coyotes with the .222 and heaps of grouse with the shotgun.

I also have a 30/30 over 20 ga. With the idea of grouse and deer. But I haven't used it much for ether.

ive got a savage 24 410/22 that belonged to my great uncle. the lever is mounted on the side of the frame rather than the top though. off the top of my head its a model s-e. doesnt have the trap door butt like the C model.

I think if somebody were to begin production of a gun similar to these for the Canadian market, they would be quite popular. Especially with popular rounds such as .223, 12 gauge, .22, 20 gauge, .22 hornet, .410, etc..
