Just recently got a savage 24F 3030 over 12. It shoots nice but wouldn't mind trying out a red dot on it.

It came without a scope mount. I called savage and they were no help except for telling me it was late production made in 2000.

If anyone has one or knows where to get one that would be appreciated.

Attached are pictures of the tapped holes and examples of what mount looks like.

I know it is not the weaver 17 or 74a that is for different tapped models.

Pictures are thumbnails click to enlarge.

Call weaver and get the centres of the holes in the 74 and compare to yours. You may have to get the mount modified to match the hole centres on your gun. Shouldn't be expensive and you can likely do it yourself if you have a good drill press.

I have a Weaver mount on my 24F. It's been a few years so I don't remember what number it is but I do recall I found it by looking it up on the Weaver website.

And I just did it again: Weaver's chart says their one piece aluminum base No.74 fits factory-drilled&tapped Savage model 24.

The top of the barrel is not tapped it is only tapped on the sides. Seems some were tapped on the top and that would use the 74 base.

Here's a thread on another forums where guy has exact same problem.

Maybe I'm just looking at it the wrong way. Are you suggesting to get it tapped on the main barrel and use the 74 and ignore the factory tapped holes? Hoping not to go that way.

Hi Hope this helps on my 30-30/20g I used a 48074 think old number 74 without the A. Just looked on my 24f 3030/20g and took off the scope to have a look for you and I found 74 stamped were the rear scope ring mounted. Also only 3 screws holding it on. If that helps

SORRY should have looked at your pics better. :( Never noticed your lack of holes on the top barrel until after my reply

Sorry I thought the 74 was the side mount ..
I had one pass through my hands a few years ago, but didn't have the gun and sold it.
