Savage 25 LVT .223

Den0001,

I may be confusing you with another member, so many posters and so little brain cells for me to remember them by. :D

If your in Ottawa, Stittesville range was selling Savage BVSS for $899. I bet they have gone through that stock but I'd check their price on that one.

I am in Alberta. Thanks for the advise MagnumPeanut but you have to understand my position. No, I Don't want to pay too much for a rifle and yes I would like one that can shoot long range with a reasonable degree of accuracy but the closest place I could personally pick one up would be Calgary. Add the price of fuel for a 480km round trip etc. and it comes out about the same per rifle. By the way, my friends are anti-gun also. I guess I am the black sheep. I can't even talk to anyone about firearms unless I go out to the local range where the people understand.

I never thought of the bus thing pockets. Yes, I suppose they will hold it for me. Neat idea. Yeesh, I hate sneaking around but I have no choice. I will also look at the rifle at Frontier Arms. That's where I got my M4 and nearly a divorce.

I couldn't find it on the Frontier site. Maybe I'm blind but I did find it on the Savage Arms site. Wow, what a rifle. Can't imagine what that would cost locally. You could reach out and hit the target with the barrel alone on that peice of artillary!!

I feel for you man.

If your wife is such an anti she should appreciate that it is you buying these guns and keeping them out of the hands of criminals. :)

I'm spoiled, my wife is totally pro-gun. Shes not much into shooting except .22 but she doesn't mind me having enough guns and ammo to arm a small militia.

I have had things shipped on the bus before, hold for pickup when I didn't want anyone to know I was expecting something. Just give them only your cel phone # for contact. I wasn't very clear, frontier has the milspec 223 in stock. If it is at all as good as the 308, it would be a dandy shooter. 1 in 9 twist as well.

The Savage 10 FLCP .223 with the muzzel break doesn't look too bad at Frontier Arms. Good barrel length Accustock and Accutrigger 1:9 twist. It is listed under law enforcement on the Savage Arms site. I had tried ordering it from my local shop but they said they couldn't get one. Strange....

Run away from the model 25 as fast as you can and don't look back.

Model 10's and 12's can be had for as much as you are looking at paying.

One of our locals bought a model 25 with a scope at our local shop for under $800. $900 for the rifle alone is a gouge.

Any of the following would be better than what you are currently looking at:
(All prices from P&D)
Remington 700 SPS Varmint, vented, BT Stk 223 Rem. 750.00 NEW
Remington 700 Varmint, Blued Brown Laminate 223 Rem. 899.00 NEW
Savage 10 Predator, Synthetic, Winter Camo 223 Rem. 875.00 NEW
Stevens 200 223 Rem. 440.00 NEW (Get a Shilen from Mystic Player for $400ish and your WAAAAAAY better off than any of the factory options listed)
Tikka T3 Varmint, Stainless Synthetic 223 Rem. 1,060.00 NEW
Remington SPS Tactical 223 Rem. 825.00 NEW

At least all of the above can be upgraded in future if you wish.

Here is a much better rifle than the 25 for $100 more plus another $30ish for shipping which is less than you will pay for taxes on the $900:

The FLCP is a left handed action, is that what you are after? If not the FCP is wha you want and is available for less than $900 in Canada you just have find one.
As I stated I am happy with my 25 and I know others that are as well. Obviously I am in a minority but that is normal, what others say is true other actions can be modded if you want but the 25 cannot. As for Peanut not laughing at the time I didn't either but eventually I saw the humour in my breaking a bolt with my bare hands, I intend to do some testing before this years match and if things go the way I expect I will use my rifle again, if not the Fcp in .223 looks real good as the F/TR can be a bit much to hold if any shots are designated standing. Lots of good advice here, look over what guns you can take your time and make your best decision.
