I was looking at an old SAVAGE 29A in the gunshow yesterday-looked very nice,seemed to be nicely balanced,and in reasonable shape for its age,asking $295[yes,I'm suffering from ''liked it-shoulda bought it ''syndrom] . Any opinions on this old .22 in terms of reliabilty,accuracy or what to watch out for when buying one?Got to admit-I like this old stuff better than the new semi automatic black rifles-but each to their own]

I bought a 29b a few months back and asked about on this board, and no one offered any feedback, so ill assume there aren't too many around. I personally love mine, I have an old winchester 1890 pump, but I prefer the savage because it has a real rifle feel, and will chamber anything. Accuracy wise, it seems pretty good....I tend to lean towards my guns with glass, but I made a can dance last week with it, so I guess its fine. The only weak spot with mine is the takedown action isn't as tight as I'd like it to be, it has a bit of vertical movement. I will be trying to address that issue soon. Would I buy another one? Sure...hard to beat the old quality, and mine holds 19 cci shorts, neighbors have no idea where the raccoons are going.

The only thing to look for are missing screws/parts on the forends as this is were all the problems originate with the savage 29 models, great guns and reliable if it hasn't been used as a hammer or prybar!! Just sold a original peep sight for one of these, hated to see it go but the guy loved it who bought it. Try rimfire cenral .com they sure know the rimfires there, good shootin! Dale in t-bay
