Savage 301

If indifferent to poor workmanship and outright failure floats your boat, go for it.
Search "Norinco fail" on this site - 81 hits in the last year (and I am sure there is other wording coming up with more).

You can have cheap, or you can have good; rarely in the same instance.

Well, I love my H&R single shots. They are reliable and simple and utilitarian guns. And they were very inexpensive!!! I mean a couple of years ago you could buy them for CAD $175.- brand new from the dealer.

And it seems the Savage 301 is a clone of the H&R single shot.

H&R goes out of business, and suddenly all those new single shots appear .... Henry now makes one as well.

And Henry single shots are twice the price of H&R or more.
My point was to think long and hard about buying Chinese low quality.
Buy used.

I bought a Stevens (Savage) Model 301 in 20 Gauge from my local Canadian tire. Ended up paying $268.88 for it. The big thing for me was removable choke tubes. I will say that it is a decent gun for the money. I didn't like the safety on it in the beginning, but after 6 months it has loosened up, and it is a lot more usable. For the first hunt with it I left the hammer down and safety off since it was stiff and I could #### the hammer quicker then I could disengage the safety. The only con's I have to say is the butt pad is a little cheap feeling, and the finish is pakerized not blued. All in all I would prefer this over an older, cheaper single shot because I don't care about abusing this one. Like when I took it hunting I just threw it in a snow bank while I cleaned my partridge. If it was an old blued H&R I would have been stressing over what to set it on while I cleaned my kill. I have put about 20 rounds through it and haven't had an issue yet. It has an ejector on it that throws empty shells about 15 feet. This summer I plan on using it for shooting skeet with it a little bit just for fun. Maybe it will start to show it's true colors then. If you have any questions or want any detailed pictures of it just let me know. I know there isn't a lot out there for detailed reviews or photos.

I actually really want a Henry single shot, but can't find one anywhere. I was going to buy the Savage, but ended up buying Turkish single shot for $100 in the EE. I have had a few issues with it, but I plan to hunt all fall with it.

Id like a henry as well but i want to see the wood first before i buy. The savage i can throw behind the seat or in the hull of my kayak. It takes down easy and has chokes
