Savage 338 AI

I was considering building a heavy blocked rifle for a while.
Pretty much the Dean of the bedding block is Bruce Baer (Bat actions and Baer Custom Rifles). Great guy with an absolute fountain of long range knowledge....Give him a call you might pick up a few ideas.
Talk to Bruce about his 308 Baer while your at it!
No disrespect to Jerry's abilities of course....His ugly rifles shoot like a SOB! :D

Your barrel is definitely bigger than it looks! :)

FWIW I would go 1.25 or larger on a blocked rifle and would run a longer than normal barrel. A 36" barrel on a block had about the same stiffness as a 28 inch normal barrel...More velocity is never a bad thing.

Interesting project to say the least. A barrel block with a Savage action...without a brake....and in 338 Improved. Kudo's to Blygy for thinking outside the box. I hope it shoots well for you.

BTW: Berger + .338 = f:P:
