I have owned a Savage 10BA for over a year now. I've really enjoyed shooting it, it's more accurate than I can shoot and it's a pleasure to shoot as recoil is minimal.
The 110BA came out just before I bought my 10BA, but as I was more or less getting back into bench shooting, plus the 110 BA's were at a "premium" price as they were new, I thought I made a wise choice buying the .308 as it is reasonable to feed!
Although, shooting a big bore gun was always in the back of my mind!
As a result, I had thoughts of selling my 10BA before the spring and moving up to the 110BA in .338 LM.
I justified this decision with plans to get back into reloading again to keep ammo costs down a bit. Although I was already planning to reload .308 before spring to reduce costs and tighten up groupings, so that justification is a "bit of a wash"!!!
Anyway, last weekend a friend of mine came over with his new Savage 110 FCP HS chambered in .338 LM! Plus he brought half a box of Hornady 285gr ammo!
So off to the range we went!
He has a Weaver 8 - 20 X ? tactical scope on it, as the range we were at only had a 200 yd range, it was OK, but I would put some better optics on it if it were mine and begin to get into longer range shooting!
The gun had only been bore sighted and my buddy had only fired 10 rounds to dial it in a bit more. So it needed more "tweeking".
I managed to shoot 6 rounds out of it. What a nice gun to shoot. The muzzle brake worked well along with the weight of the gun recoil was not bad at all, just a bit more than my 10BA.
We were adjusting the scope as I fired my rounds as it was high/right, the last three shots were approx. 2" at 200 yds. With more trigger time, a better scope and some good reloads, this gun will be perfect for ME!!!!
I still plan to sell my 10BA, but now I'll be buying the 110 FCP HS to replace it.
I don't have the money, nor have I honed my shooting skills enough to get into a Sako, AI, Blaser, etc., so I think the Savage is a "great bang for the buck" for 'rookie' longer distance shooter.
