Hello I'm in the process of getting a 340 Savage in .30.30. I haven't been able to find too much info on the rifle and was wondering if anybody had any thoughts on the subject. The rifle is in "good" condition and looks pretty interesting. I especially fell for the fluted receiver! I like the idea of using 3030 ammo as I have a couple win 94's. It will be a plinker so I'm not worried about caliber

I have one I am playing with now. This is my third one, I enjoy plinking with them. I am thinking on trying to make a .30-30 Improved on it. It seems the mag might be a problem though if Improved.

My wife and I have 2 of them, one has a scope the other has the open sights. We loaded 125, and 150g pointed bullets in them and they are accurate to at least 300 yards. If you don't reload try the new Hornady rounds.

I had one and sold it........
It was a Great Truck rifle and mine shot very well.
Put most Leverguns to Shame:p ;)
You should enjoy your Toy !

I had one as well only mine was the CIL 830 version (Savage 340 clone)

It was a great shooting rifle and a real good feeding rifle. The kids in our hunting party all started out using it and with all the inexperienced shooters the rifle seen it never missed a beat.

Once the boys all got their own rifles it became a spare and I ended up selling on this site.

I had one and traded it on a Marlin. I had feeding problems, possibly due to the magazine. The rifle was quite accurate, I shot several groups in the 1 to 1.5 MOA range for 3 shots. That was with either 150 CoreLokt/ Reloder 15 handloads or Winchester 150 Power Points. I never got better than about 1.5 to 2 MOA with 170's.

I had one that I 're-finished' and sold it...why I don't know. That little rifle shot .25" - .5" groups at 100m with 170gr handloads. They are good little rifles for sure.

:D

I had one of the CIL 830's in 30-30 about 10 years ago...it shot like a modified choke most of the time but once in a while it would toss a full choke pattern.....IF you could get it to feed.......then, about 7 years ago I had one of the Savage 340's in 222 and it was a decent shooter......fed fine too....for $135..it wasn't bad deal...the 30-30 was a freebie.....
