Savage 42 vs Savage 24

I would like to hear from people who have owned both and what they thought of the new 42 in comparision to the 24.

I am thinking of getting one as a use gun and be able to put away my dad's that I inherited.

I had one in my hands not too long ago, the 42 that is.
Fairly light and felt a bit cheap.
It opened nicely, all was snug and the fit and finish
was good.
Definitely raised my eyebrows.
I didn't think they were horrible on price given what the
24's go for.
Go play with one at a shop and see how they are.

The 42 is an abomination! Mechanically sound, but how they could go from beautiful colour case hardening and wood that a plastic monstrosity I'll never know...

I agree the look is not the same but for a truck gun that is going to be abused, plastic is better than wood. If its fuggly then I won't be upset with it getting bashed around.

The 42 is a natural evolution of the 24, as far as I'm concerned.

I'll likely get one once they introduce it in 20 guage, as I'm not a fan of the .410.
