picked myself up a Savage 4C at a auction on the weekend... has a Lyman rear sight with a Parker Hale front sight with 7 different inserts... has a little bit of damage under the bolt on the stock and a couple small holes drilled into but other then that its not bad... i plan on redoing the stock and i would like to redo the metal on it as well but not sure how to go about that... anyway does anyone else have one of these any info on them... i shot it real quick when i dropped my buddy off after the auction and it shoots really nice... haven't had it out to shoot some paper yet tho... hopefully sometime this week or weekend... anyway let me know what you think about it... oh i paid $212 for it after taxes and fees good/ok/bad deal?

bad pics i know

That's a damn fine deal at that price. By the checkering on the wrist, your rifle is from between 1933 (when they started production) and 1941. Post-war, they stopped checkering the wrist. Would you mind sharing the model of rear sight and front sight? I wouldn't mind picking a set up for my rifle since it looks just dandy on yours.

id love to tell yea... but not sure how to tell... dont see no numbers or anything on them

I bet it was set up with those sights for the CIL sponsored sporting target rifle shooting - Dominion Marksman. I like these vintage .22s. Good price!
Usually the container for the front sight inserts was mounted on the bottom of the grip. Doesn't matter that yours is on the side of the butt.

so if this thing is pre war since it has the checkering... should i leave to stock the way it is... or how would i got about redoing while leaving the checkering looking nice

Personally, I'd leave it as is.
But if you want to refinish the stock, use chemical stripper to remove the varnish, brush out the checkering, and work around it if any sanding is needed. Checkering can be recut, although the person doing the work has to know what he is doing, to achieve crisp results.

also if you look at the close up i took of the dmg under the bolt... anyone have any idea why those two holes on either side of the dmg might be there?

Finished, unfortunately I only painted the bottom parts stainless. Ideally I would of got the trigger tini coated for the gold look, and the painted parts would of been cerakoted instead of just painted.
