I consider them to be a decent rifle. I consider anything from Savage during that period to be of very good quality, especially the pre war ones. Bolts components seem to be quite durable as well. Some have the original peep sights which are quite nice. The original open sights are ok. The stock is larger in comparison to other 22s of the period which is quite nice for me.
Though original magazines and parts are hard to acquire. The majority of them are not set up for a scope if so required except for a some with the Weaver side mount which very limits your selection of scopes. As well original stock finish can flake quite badly and can require a refinish.

I have a pre-war one that is one of my most accurate rifles. If I'm having a good day it'll shoot 1/2" at 50 yards almost every time. I got a modern scope on it using some Weaver brackets (don't ask me which ones now) that match up with the side mounts.
As for a mag, there are aftermarket mags out there, but I find it's best to just treat it as a single-shot rifle. I've never been able to get it to consistently feed well from a mag.

I've had two different 4c rifles over the years, sold them both again as I had other 22 bolt action rifles I liked better and was running out of storage space.
They feel bigger than most 22 bolt action rifles both in stock size and bolt size.
Trigger is a bit basic design but works.
