Good day everyone.
Once again I need your opinion.
I'm looking to get semi- auto 22 LR for plinking.
Which one? Pros and cons.
I know they are different and price wise about 200 plus difference too.
I have experience with savage mark II and its very accurate.
Thanks

Rugers suck for the money. The savage a22 are great for the money and you can get 25 round butler creeks mags for them

Savage is a $150 gun you pay $200 for. Ruger is a $250 gun you pay 350 for. The rugers still better but neither are worth their cost. I still own 2 rugers though.

Buddy got a savage and the things never been able to feed a full mag. Another buddy has an old cooey 64 and although weve been working on it its still not completely reliable.

I bought a 64 a few years ago, and find it's light and 'handy', but the issue with the mags is valid - they're crap! I bought 3 and they all were mis-feeding, so I had Savage send me replacements - they sent 3 new ones!! They can be 'made' to work if you're handy and patient. If you want to avoid the Ruger, get a Sav A22. But research online for reviews on Savage shooters.com and rimfirecentral.com to get a better idea of and issues with them. The Ruger is overpriced (about $400 around here) and not as accurate as many less expensive semis. If you're wanting to go 'tactical' them the ruger would have lots of add-ons.

Honestly, a savage 64 is about the worst choice for a semi auto 22. They have always had crap pot metal mags that lead to misfeeds, and that's going back to the old cooey days 50 years ago.

The odd guy has good luck with one and loves it, but most don't, and they jam so much you might be better off with a bolt action.

Some of semis are mag fed, some are tube feed. The tube feed is kind of nice and simple, but is a disadvantage for gophers.
Look at the savage a22, marlin 795, marlin 60 (tubefeed), an old mossberg 151 (tubefeed), or the ruger 10/22 as you mentioned.
They are all better guns than the savage, (although I've never shot an a22). If you're in the low end of the price range and don't mind to tinker, a Norinco JW-20 (tubefeed) can be a great choice.

Every gun has it's own personality and issues, and I'd be the last guy to say a stock 10/22 is excellent, because their stock trigger is crap and Ruger could have incorporated many improvements to make them better 30 years ago.
However, if you're willing to go through the trouble, like a trigger job and replacing the barrel, they can be made excellent with a good dollop of money, turning it into a $500 gun.

Finally, I can say that in almost every case, a semi auto 22 will have a less than great trigger pull. In my experience, the marlin, ruger and brno all have creepy triggers.
The Norinco JW-20 actually has a pretty good crisp trigger. For around $200 these days, they are quite the bargain.

I have recently purchased an A22 and a Remington 597. I'm still under 100 rounds through each. They both seem to have potential for accuracy and are fun to shoot. I like the bolt hold open on the last shot with the 597. The A22 doesn't have that feature. Also the 597 has a spring kit available to reduce the high trigger pull. I polished and adjusted the rods on the 597 before I took it to the range and had no problems with FTF or FTE. The A22 has the accutrigger but it only goes to 3 lbs or so. You can buy a Jard trigger for it but it is quite expensive. The A22 was problem free without any pre-work. I was using CCI SV. I haven't decided which I prefer yet.
