Hey guys i just bought a savage modle 64. i went there with the intention of buying a marlin 795 but they didnt carry them. WHats your opinion on this gun, i havnt shot it yet because its actually a xmas gift lol.

I've owned a 64 for many years, never had a problem with it. need to be cleaned once in awhile tho. Great chicken (grouse) guns

Same basic action and gun as the Cooey 64 that was built way back in the 30s. I have a model that was only made first 2 years of manufacture.. Plastic mag. Still operates accurately even with the thousands of shots down the barrel it has seen.

I adore my '64s!!!
My first .22 was(is) a Cooey 64 converted to use metal mags. After 25+ years of shooting it I still bring it out. I ended buying one for my girlfriend to use too...they still make them(as you know...Mr. Shiny new rifle!) today with, a better safety to show for it.

That said, Marlin really does have a good deal going now! Honestly, if I could afford a new rifle, was standing in front of both...
"Did you ever have to finally decide" keeps playing in my head! You won't be disapointed with your's I'm sure!

I have a Savage 64, it was my first .22LR rifle. Love it. Very basic gun, but extremely accurate. My wife uses it mostly now and she loves it because the accuracy of it is building up her confidence with shooting.

They do get dirty and, suffer for it...I didn't always love mine!

They are super easy to take competely apart (once I realized this, the love began). I, personlly, only lubricate the action for strorage as, they foul faster wet. But, valid point...you'll have to clean every 1000 rounds or so or FTF/FTL/FTE issues will present themselves.

I had one, I liked it. I wish I had known how to take it apart. I used to just flush the action out with WD40 to get all the grit out.

Grizzley.....You should have shown it to me at the range. I fixed Richard's ( bless the man) 64 right there at Selkirk G&F range. Really need a cleaning when they start being finiky...then dry reassemble....a lot depends also on the ammo...some brands do foul much faster than others. Remmys were terrible...winchester went the longest between cleanings.

I might get one of these when they come out!

Thanks. I don't have it any more, but it was a good little gun. Come spring will I see you and your son at the Selkirk range again?
