Hey whats up everyone. I have had this savage for about a year and a half now and I have only put about 600 rnds through my original mag and about 400 through my 2nd OEM mag.

Here is my problem. The first mag has WORN out. What i mean by that is the right side steel lip is wearing out BAD! it will not hold a 22 round anymore and falls right through the feeding lips only on the right side...Well i noticed my 2nd magazine is doing the same. I say its about 200rnds away from doing the same thing. I am going to call savage tomorrow but i was wondering if u guys have seen anything like this. I am going to take pics tomorrow and post them

They do wear out, eventually. Should take many 1000's of rounds to do it.

Look at the bottom of your bolt..is the pin (or screw) that holds the ejector sticking out al all? These pins are much harder than the pot-metal mag and, will rip them very quickly.

Other possible causes: Mag riding too high in the mag well...

If imroperly loaded, magazines will fail. I have fired thousands of rounds through Remington plastic magazines for the 597 and 581 rifles, but have seen magazine failures such as the OP describes from improper loading.

The .22 LR is a rimmed round. When loading the magazines, the rounds should be pushed down from the front, with about half the cartridge sticking out from the magazine, then when the rear rim is down in the front part of the magazine, the cartridge should then be pushed backwards to fully insert it into the magazine.

The other way is to insert the cartridge base down vertically into the front part of the magazine, then push the nose sideways so the rim slides under the feed lips, and then back toward the rear of the magazine.

I have seen people who did not know how to load a magazine with rimmed cartridges try to just push the cartridges downwards through the feed lips, thus causing damage to the feed lips, particularly in the case of .22 rimfires.

As mentioned, it is also possible that some part on the bolt is wearing on the magazine when the rifle is being fired.

It would also help if the OP were to post some pictures of the magazine where it has been damaged.

I definately know how to reload my magazines. I own several rimfire rifles and pistols and have never had a problem like this...Pics are coming in 5 minutes

Take your rifle apart (dead easy...)

Remove the bolt...on the bottom (right hand side) is a roll pin...it holds your extractor. It should not protrude from the bottom of the bolt at all. Looks like Your's is... Press it back up into the bolt and, peen (just a tickle) it so it doesn't work down again.

thx camster i'll check that out....also just called savage they said they would replace the mags as long as I sent mine in. They said this is normal (wasn't happy with that response) how could this be normal. 600rnds and they mag is done! horrible
 
CAMSTER U R THE MAN!!!!! Thats exactly what was happening it was sticking out quite a bit actually...Thank you sooo much! I really really appreciate it. Now to send in my mags to get replaced! thanks a lot!

EXACTLY...normal my ass haha...pin was sticking out QUITE a bit man...lets hope it doesnt work itself out anymore...it should tho! Thanks again man.

Now lets see how long it takes for these mags to get replaceD! haha
