I have beed looking for a 22 semi auto and think it might be the savage 64F.
I would like to know if there are larger then the 10 round mag out there.
Or is there a cheap source for extra mags

Not much for extra large mags for the 64, just your factory 10 rounders. If you're looking for a semi with high-capacity mags, you're gonna have to go wither ruger 10/22 or remington 597.

Savage 64 does not have a larger capacity mag. Limit is a 10 shot and can be bought from Savage Arms directly. Most reputable shops should carry them also. They fit the Cooey 64 and Lakefield 64 series also.

I adore my 64's!

No joy on extra cap mags...yet. Currently involved in a magazine hybridizing program. I've put a butler creek (for another manf. .22) in the same cage as my Savage clip....just wait n' see!

Also, have successfully "mated" a shot-out clip to one with good feed lips. Didn't hold 20 though...good for 17-18! I may have lopped off a bit much...

Savage/Lakefield/Cooey 64s are great semi-auto .22s. They are very accurate and super easy to take apart and clean. Unfortunately 10-shot clips are all that are sold. If you buy them from a store they'll be about $20 each but you can order them direct from Savage Arms for significantly less... I think $12-$13 each.

For the money you will not find a more accurate and reliable semi-auto .22

Some retail stores will charge up to $30 for a mag, but they can be found much cheaper.

Though the prices are very comparable, I like the Cooey series of 64s also...but have found that the Mossberg 151M and 152 rifles are geared for target shooting and have proved themselves over and over to be more accurate for over 50 yard shooting, up to that distance they seem to shoot the same.. I especially like the full wood Mossbergs so I have several that have been compared to the Cooey 64s I have.. The main thing is to enjoy the ones you have. I certainly do. All of them.....

about to hijack...

...Now, why'd you have to go and do that? There's a westernfield (mossy 151?) that loads through the stock close to me...I've read (and learned from) many of
your '64(personal fav) posts I've GOTTA get one now!

I guess the is, OP is talking about "modern"[manufactured]/new rifle and, I don't think theres a current 151. Unless I wanted a stainless gun, I can't imagine buying a b/n .22 semi....too cheap!

Some of us just learn that one style of rifle is more pleasing than another. The Mossy types took over and the 64s are up for grabs. I really seemed to get into the 64s but on with the "new". This next month as I head out to the fields once more. there is a "new "( to me) Mossy 144lsb that needs broken in....I will soon see how she operates.

I have one I was givin some 20 yrs ago because it was not working well. I never got into .22's so it has sat in the back of the cabinet since, I am ashamed to say I never even oiled it all this time lol. Well, since Mikeystew started a thread on the 64 he refinished, and my daughter saw Mikes rifle, I have started refinishing mine, so its a good thing to hear they are a reliable rifle.

The statement that appears in my reply is not my statement, but is the statement from Toxid....I have not learned yet how to get them in a "QUOTE" form. I am learning this computer stuff slowly.

I have refinished the woods on my 64s and as well on a Lakefield Mark I, Mark II and Mark III. Nothing like the feeling of accomplishment on "doing it yourself"

Agreed! I took it all apart, and the only reason it did not work when it was given to me was due to the fact it was dooooo gummed up with grease and dirt. Cleaned her all up, she looks good, I am sure all that crud is the reason it was not working. Now to just refinish the stock.

With only 5 major pieces to them ....about the only thing that can stop operation is the extractor or ejector breaking . Literally an unbreakable firing pin. Usual ailments is the crud from the shell building up in the action.

Well I broke it down to every little piece(15 or so pieces), I had no choice there was so much crud/dirt in every nook and cranny. I am guessing that the guy who gave it to me just kept soaking it with oil thinking it would make it cycle better.
