Hi all, I picked up a Savage 64Fxp, it's a cheap semi plinker. I know that with that comes jams, FTF etc. I heard of filing down the mag lips to help with the feeding. As for the jams..I also heard of at first only shootong CCI Stingers through, or basically better HV ammo for the first 300-400 rounds to help break in the action. Has anyone done this to confirm if that helps?

Title says marlin. Thread says savage. The savage 64 can be hard on its mags and will wear the lips in on its own. No problem with my new one. It fed reliably from its mag but didnt from my cooey 64 mags

Hi - I've had a 64 for several years and gone thru many mods. Don't file the mags - they're 'pot-metal' and wear by themselves. At some point you'll have to 'tighten' them with pliers. I have a thread that details my troubles with them and possible fixes.
As for the jams, they're mostly caused by Hyper-velocity rounds moving the bolt 'too fast' OR using 'sub-sonic' that doesn't move the bolt enough. Best accuracy is from Standard Velocity, like CCI-SV or Fed Gold Medal - those have given me great results - YMMVary ;-)
Look up my posts to see all my mods - I've got my trigger down to about 2-1/2# and can do 1/2" AT 50 if I take my time - pretty OK for a plinker ;-)

Enjoy your new friend -
Ed
