Other than some minor changes and better fit/finish of some parts, it is the old Lakefield design.
Are the mags interchangeable with the lakefield and can you buy extra mags for the Savage?

Yes , yes and yes....the mags are cheap from Savage directly. The mags are the same from the 1960s issue til today's issue.

Keep hammering them out, I say, I've owned one of my 64s for over 20 years...it is very nice to be able to get new parts for rifles older than I am!

As far as I recall, the first Cooey 64 was out in 1960s. Through several different manufacturers , they remained the same, but some of the modern action parts do not fit the older actions. Many of the older gunsmiths do make these old gun parts.

Even "home smiths" like me can work on 'em also...last "mod" I did was to convert the wire-type ejector to a flat steel style. Used a dollar store handsaw as stock, a dremel and, a drill press (buddy's garage). 1938? 70+ years....
