I have recently inherited a 755A from my grandfather and since he tells me it hasnt been shot in 20 years, I'd like to take it apart for cleaning and inspection. Now its easy enough to get the bbl and forestock off, but I cannot figure out how to get the bolt assembly out; can someone help me out?

Thanks!

Stop right there! There's no need to remove the bolt, and it's not easy. You've got to line up the breech with a pair of holes in the receiver which allow you to drive a pin out the right side, unlocking the . . . . the short answer is don't.

Buy a can of brake cleaner from Cambodian Tire. Remove the barrel, and just hose out the insides with the breech forward and with it locked back. You'll be amazed at the crud that'll get flushed out. Do it outside, though, the fumes are strong. And don't get it on wood. Then re-lube lightly, and you're good to go.

Inspect the receiver for small hairline cracks that work their up from two pin holes by the magazine loading port.

Do you know how to set the rings?

Hmmmm, I kinda figured that was what that little hole is for. Ya, sounds like its not nearly worth the effort! Brake cleaner it is!

How do I go about getting lube onto the parts inside the receiver? And no, I don't know how to set the rings.

Thanks a lot!!

Any spray gun lube like G96 or BreakFree will be fine. A little goes a long way. Get any moving/sliding parts and their rails, spray a bit into the firing pin hole, the locking lug, etc., you'll find the parts. If you spray in too much, just rest it upsidedown and let any excess drip out.

There is that bronze/brass friction band on the magazine tube which soaks up the recoil and controls the barrel action. There should be one small steel ring, with a flat side and a concave side. Sandwich the brass friction band between the ring and the barrel lug (concave sides facing the brass band) for heavier loads.

For lighter loads, store the steel ring on the mag tube against the receiver, flat side forward. Now the spring butts against the brass friction band, which fits into the barrel lug. If this still isnt' clear, do a search for an A5 diagram or manual from Browning, showing how to do it. You also use a LITTLE oil on the mag tube to help fine tune the action. You don't want it pounding back into the receiver.

Good luck with it.
