Hey guys,
I've just inherited a savage 775a and was wondering if any body has one, has some opinions on them, had any problems with them etc. The guy I got it from said he had some problems with the trigger not cocking when cycling, but he adjusted it and it should be ok. I've taken it apart, cleaned it and lubed it in the places the manual says it needs it, but I haven't shot it yet to try it out. Also I was wondering if it is possible to buy parts for these guns or are they pretty much obsolete?

My fil has one. It has a cracked receiver, which is apparently common. The cracks start at the bottom near the bottom loading port, and specifically start at the small holes drilled there in the receiver. Long recoil guns kick more than gas guns, and this lighter gun kicks more yet again.

It's a nice version of the Browning long recoil system, uses an aluminum receiver. Not a bad gun if all is working. Parts don't interchange with the browning, and they are of a somewhat rougher/cruder manufacture. Some parts are available.

Shoot it, enjoy it. It's definitely a conversation piece, anyway. Send in a pic if you can.

Have a gunsmith check that sear trigger assembly. I don't know of anyone who can "adjust" a Browning patent trigger safely unless they are a smith. Hate to see a good dog get peppered with a bump fired round. It would be cool to watch it go full auto just once.

take care Darryl
