Savage 9 Shot Detachable Magazine - PICS Added

Talk to Jerry (Mysticplayer) he is an amazing resource. The shilen barrels from what I've been told are unbelievable and the switch is very easy. Call up Sharp Shooter Supply, buy yourself a new recoil lug (much better quality than factory), barrel wrench, barrel blocks (to be used in a standard vise) and you are good to go. The process takes no time at all and you can use a headspace gauge or a full length size casing for the specific cartridge of choice (I would recommend filling the casing with epoxy or something for strength).

I plan on buying a 308 barrel for rifle in this thread and shoot some longer distance targets and there is not choice other than Shilen for me.

Be careful though, it's highly addictive.

The blind mag on the Stevens 200's kept me away, but this info says that you can convert to a detachable mag, high cap no less!

Does Richards Microfit or any of the other stock manufacturers do an inlet for detachable mag savages?

All you need to do is purchase the magazine hardware from Sharp Shooter Supply or possibly Savage Arms directly (I think SSS is cheaper somehow) and pop it into the new stock.

As for stock options, currently I believe Stockade, HS Precision, and Sharp Shooter Supply are the only ones inletting for the new centre feed detachable mag configurations.

That's a good looking setup.

Its a pity they changed the feed style on the newer line of centerfire rifles, I liked the parts interchangeability that Savage offers but I guess they know what they are doing

Just ordered a barrel wrench and recoil lug from SSS. They are so easy to deal with I was really impressed. I will be ready to order the appropriate bolt face when I find a second rifle in my price range to start swapping barrels.

The personal service that a small business can give is very refreshing.

Thanks for the kind words and referal. The response has been really good from members.

The Shilen prefit barrels are definitely getting very good reviews from the many US side users. Barrels from my first order should start delivering in Feb so I look forward to seeing some feedback here soon.

This should give you all the info you need on the barrels, and options.

Once I get the rig up and running, I'll be pming you. I also need to get that order for 6.5x52mm reloading components started sometime this winter.

Depends. Your rifle must be a centerfeed rifle and they only make the mags for .308. Not sure, .243 might be ok but your rifle MUST have a detachable centerfeed magazine or no dice.

I got my DIY kit today and sucessfully converted my mag. It was easy to do, however if I had my time back I would have spent the extra 20 bucks for the complete mag kit.

Looks AWESOME!
