Picked up a Savage .17 HMR model # 93R17 FSS. There was not a lot of selection today for some reason:confused: Anyway, I was hoping to swap out the cheapy synthetic stock for something laminated perhaps. Does anyone know where I can get a different stock? I also noticed that I will also need a trigger guard replacement as well. Thanks!

You sure it's a 917 not 93R17? You may be confusing the model numbers between the Savage and Marlin 17HMRs.

Boyd's has laminate stocks for the Savage 93R17, if you can find one on there that tickles your fancy. I, myself, don't go for that cut out, radically shaped stuff too much. My 93R17 FVSS will probably wear its factory synthetic until I shoot the barrel out.

Oops, sorry Farva, yes it is a 93r17. I've been researching the pi$$ out of both brands and got the model #'s mixed up. Boyds makes a traditional replacement stock for this rifle? I'm not a fan of that cut out evolution style either.

No biggie. The wheels in my head just started spinning thinking maybe Savage put something new on the shelves that I hadn't heard about yet.

In looking at my 93R17 FVSS and my Stevens 300F [Savage Mk II - 22.LR copy] I would think that a stock for a MK II, as long as you had the proper barrel contour, would fit. The only differences I can see is the barrel channel and the floorplates, which you'd have to order from Savage anyways. I had the thought of switching my grey 300F stock with my black 93R17 one, but then I realized the barrel channels are different.

They do have a few more conventional looking stocks for the 93R17/MkII but they're on backorder. Such is life.
