Hi Savage 93 owners

I bought a 10 round mag for my 17 hmr at Canadian tire today and it doesn't work properly.

The channel on the back that slides along the tab seems to be too tight. I can start the magazine on the tab but it jambs up a half inch before the retaining clip clicks in. My 5 rounder works perfectly and its channel looks very similar.

I would have thought a genuine Savage part would fit.

Has anyone else had this happen? How did you fix it? Should I exchange it for another one?

Thanks

I have the same problem with my current set up. The 10 rounder worked in my older savage that I sold but the new rifle takes some serious force for it to seat properly. Even the 5 rounder it came with is a bit stiff. I took it apart and looked where it was binding and it just looks like it needs to be filed down and smoothed out, but I don't have the proper tool to do it with. Would be interested to hear if you get it fixed up.

I got it fixed up! I bent out the channel flanges to make them about 110 degrees instead of 85 degrees. Then it was sloppy so I closed the channel gap by pinching the flanges together. Then it was just tight enough but the bolt wouldn't pick up the round so I widened the feed lips a tiny bit. Now its better than my original 5 round magazine. And it was all done with vise grips in about 3 minutes.

Glad that worked out. I have a stainless 93 in 22mag and it came with a stainless 5rd. It is tight but workable. Then I got another 5rd but blued. It's a lot harder to insert/remove and I think that's because the stainless is smoother. Then I got 3 of the 10rd stainless when they came out. They are the easiest to remove/insert as they are easier to get a hold of. Even when just loading to 5rd for groupings I use the 10rd mags.
