I've been reading that the Savage 93 magazines are horrible on the internetz, but when I do a search on CGN, I don't read any discussions on the magazine problems. Nada. Just general praise of the rifle. I don't get it. The internetz say that all the magazines are loose and the ammo either falls out or doesn't feed properly? I was about to buy one until I got scared about the magazines. What's the truth?

thanks.

It is hit and miss,

I had 4, 2 of them worked perfectly, one needed some tweaking on the feed lips to get it to work. The last one would never work no matter what I tried. They are great guns but the mags either work great or not.

There were aftermarket, 10 round mags made a year or so back that were pretty sucky, but I've read (and experienced) most Savage-made 93 mags work fine. If there is anything to complain about, it might be how the mag fits into the gun. There is a channel on the back edge of the mag, and a metal "tongue" hanging down from the mag well in the rifle. The channel on the mag keys into that "tongue", something that can sometimes be a bit fussy. By "fussy", I mean some people can't do it blind, they have to roll the rifle over to make sure they're aligned. I have read (rarely) that some feeding issues can result as a result of that "tongue" being too far back, and the simple fix being to simply bend it forward slightly.

On a side note~Savage now offers they're own 10 round mag which apparently is very good, but my 93FV was sold before I ever got a chance to try one.

I had one 93 HMR that would spit the rounds out of itself. Sometime right away, sometime when you opened the bolt to eject the first spent case the mag would dump out the top. Took a full 3 seconds to fix with a pair of needle nose pliers. I've had a dozen other 93 mags that all functioned flawlessly.

Picked one up just before Christmas in .22 mag.
It came with a 5 round mag and I bought a second 5 round mag too.
Both seemed a little finicky at first but seemed to settle in after about a 100 rounds or so through them.

The gun's a real shooter too. :)

I had the 17hmrmag.com ones and they were complete and udder sh...... The savage made ones were better but still didn't feed perfect every time for me. Yes they fit very loose in the gun as well.

When I first got my model 93 it was a prick to feed but after a couple of boxes it simply got better and better and now my Savage made 5 and 10 round magazine feed just great. My magazines are both made of stainless steel so maybe the carbon steel stuff is different. I have heard of magazine problems with the model 93 and guys a saying to squeeze in on the magazine lips to stop the ejecting and to bend the magazine holder just a touch so that you decrease the feed angle.

I've had the same issue a couple times, I'd put the mag in and all the cartridges would spit out the top. Also I find the magazine a little finicky to get in place. Overall a great gun to shoot and feels great in the hand, but the mag is annoying.

What exactly did you do with the pliers?

Yep sounds about right.....I have 6 mags total, 4 of them did this, just give them a bit of a squeeze on the lips and thy are ok after, go easy and a little at a time, don't think you wanna over do it.

Of all my dozens of MKII mags for LR and HM2 and 93 mags for WMR and HMR I have only had problems with one... the one I drove over with my truck. I have dozens of five rounders and ten rounders and the only beef I have with them is that the plastic from the packaging gets imbedded in the side slot and it is a bugger to pick out... in the gun they work perfectly.

No issues with feeding but you have to make sure magazine is fully seated. Once it's loose and wobbly, then it's seated correctly. Doesn't wobble once bolt is closed.
