Well it arrived today from P&D, very quickly thanks! Here are some initial thoughts and observations.

I have a 2.5-16 scope coming for this rifle, but for now I couldn't resist putting something on it just to test it out, and so it wouldn't look so naked...

The actual colours of the stock are a bit darker / richer than on web pics. But they certainly are vivid. The stock feels nice and smooth to the touch.
It's a matte finish, which I much prefer over gloss.

Overall it has a nice shape and feel to it. The stock is angled nicely so you can make small elevation adjustments on your bags by slightly pushing/pulling.
Might run afoul of snagging the dual sling studs doing that though. (But it's nice touch, so you can sling AND leave your pod attached when not at the range).
Shooting off a bipod will be no problem.
You can see that my scope and rings are a mis-match, sitting a tad too high. That will change once my other stuff arrives in the mail.
Safety seems weird to me, pull back to fire, push to safe. I'll get used to it.

I like the look of the "Buick" holes along the fore end. You can see that they are not cleaned up after machining, but it's no big deal to do yourself later, and what do you expect from a lower-end production rifle? I have to say that I like the looks of the spiral fluted barrel...

You can see that the finish is a little rough upon closer inspection - It comes pre-marked scratched and gouged so that it matches my old scope and rings. lol
Again, no big deal. It cycles smoothly enough, nothing is catching, no big burrs to file. I'll likely take it all apart and do some sanding though.

The bolt knob is nicely rubbed too, right out of the box, giving it a "lived in" look.
Mags all worked fine loaded up with 5 rounds each, no signs of "popcorn-ing" like some have reported.

One thing - this stock could seriously benefit from a bit of a palm swell to make it more comfortable, but that is purely a personal preference.
Overall, I like it. There are a few minor blemishes, but Savage mostly got this right....however, beauty is only skin deep!
The real test will come when I get to shoot it. Further reports then.

One thing I don't like about their safety is sometimes when I close the bold with gloves on or quickly, I accidentally put the safety on....

Happens maybe every third trip to the range. Makes for a fun tripper pull with the safety on.

My father has one of these, tried everything to get it to shoot well, tried different ammo and different weights but still inconsistent.. Tried multiple different scopes.. Vortex crossfire, bushnell legend ultra hd... After about 500-700 rounds and puting Burris sig zee rings and a vortex viper on it, it now shoots very very well. I really like the look and feel of the brj

I have an older pre accutrigger MkII BV that I love and was considering picking up a MkII G for some small game hunting. I'm sure that the new rifles shoot great, but I cannot stand the goofy looking step between the barrel and receiver on the new(accutrigger) actions and the latest switch to a bead blasted finish totally turned me off... The polished blue looked a lot better! Shame really as the prices still seem to be climbing steadily and closing the gap with CZ.

Still a smart looking rifle there though! shame about the scuff and scratches but I hope it shoots well!

Main thing is that you are happy with the rifle. I guess they gotta make some changes in production since they are producing somewhere between 2000 and 5000(planned) rifles a week in that little plant! I can tell you for sure that all the rimfires are hand fitted and testfired in house before shipping, it's quite the operation they have going from the tour I got.

Don't you have that backwards? Push the lever forwards to fire, red dot is exposed and pull it back to safe, big S is exposed. Your safety is in the "fire" position in all your pics unless your gun is the exact opposite of mine.

Gotta agree with you there....

I e-mailed them about that on a new 22 cottage gun I bought and they said they no longer do bluing. I said all products lines and they said yes. I can see it on a cheap 22 like I got or Axis but something nicer like you got or a decent centerfire I think it should be blued still in my opinion.

Not that they had very good bluing in the first place, I'd rather still have it then that bead blast finish. This should drop the price of the guns then, no?

^x2...granted, I'd prefer that satin, bead-blasted finish on my FV-SR over what it has. Tooling marks so deep you could almost grate cheese with it. Want to see an oiled cotton rag come apart quick? Wipe down the barrel of my FV-SR! lol
