Just picked it up from P&D Enterprises, and just put my Tasco 2.5-10X40 Varmint scope on it.
The stock is absolutely beautiful. The wide beaver tail forestock is very comfortable and feels very stable in your hands.
THe accutrigger is just a dream. No creep what so ever.
The blueing is top quality. Colour is consistant, and has a nice luster.
For a small rifle, it has a substantial feel to it, weighing in (scope and all) at around 7 1/2 lbs. That's the same as a full size Reminton 700 CDL .270cal.
I am yet to see how accurate it is, but seeing the every .17HMR I have ever fired has been extremely accurate, I would imagine that this one is no different.
I just can't wait to try it our on the gophers.... c'mon spring!!

Thats a really sweet rifle; waited and waited spring of 2006 for these to come into Canada. Ended up with a .223 instead but eventually would like to pick one up like yours.

I wasn't fussy on the thumbhole stainless version. I'm more partial to the traditional style of stock and blued barrel and action.
Although, when I went in to P&D to pick it up they had a 93R17BVTS blued with a multi coloured laminate thumbhole stock which turned a few heads.
 
Yeah, I know what you're saying. Winter has been here long enough, and I been thinking about nothing but gophers since I picked this puppy up.:p
I'm heading out to the range this weekend.
I'll post the results of it's performance.
 
Although I have a few savage rifles, I honestly didnt know that they made a nice looking 17hmr:eek:

It is definately one I'm keeping an eye open for. I would get the thumbhole stock strictly for gophers. Try something new I guess.
 
Nice rifle, I'm waiting for them to hurry up and make that in a left hand.
The only one I've seen on their site doesn't have a liminate stock or an accutrigger
 
You will certainly be pleased! My stainless/synthetic version with the regular trigger (bought it one year to early, ouch!!!) easilly put groups within 1 MOA at 100yds on a very windy day. Good Hunting!

I was out to the range today to sight it in (along with a few other toys.)
It was cloudy with sunny periods, temperature of -14, no wind.

So far, I'm quite pleased on how this rifle shoots.
The action is silky smooth compared to my last Mariln 917, and the accutrigger works beautifully. Alot smoother and any trigger I've used on a rimfire rifle.
I guess like any gun there is probably a break in period, but overall it shot really well.
I was using Federal Vshok 17gr. rounds that my local Canadian Tire is now carrying. I am told that they are manufactured at the same plant as the Hornaday?
Anyhow they seem just as accurate as the Hornaday Vmax that I've used in the past and alot better than CCI TNT hollow points which I have had no luck with at all.
Once I managed to sight the rifle in at 100 yards here's the groups I was getting. BTW, the lower left shot on the 1 ring was my fault.:rolleyes:

Either way, that would be one dead gopher.:D

Yep, CCI makes em all...Fed, Rem, Hornady, CCI...but each brand has their own recipe.

That would be awesome since the field I was using last summer was pretty dried up by the time August rolled around.;)
 
last year a couple fields i used to shoot gophers in got bought by people from Holland and they denied access, so i went searching knocking on doors, and there is lots of opportunity out in tofield and towards lamont area. some landowners even buy your ammo but want the tails as proof that you didnt waste thier money

bought the savage stainless laminated with thumbhole stock for myself for xmas been using the remington accutip for sighting in at 100 yds,how are 17's at 150yds or 200yds
 
It's a good gun - I had that model. Accurate as anything. Sold it though, HMR ammo is just too expensive. I can reload centerfire for that price and the splat factor is higher
