Savage 99 info. Hot Damn!

Ya, I have seen very few on the board that merit the asking price (no offence to the sellers) because they are asking collector prices for shooter grade guns. A DL for $600 would have to be in at least 95% condition in my books. I just picked up an R in .308 that may actually be a late RS--won't have it in my hands for 10 days or so but sounds like it has the original Redfield receiver sight on it.

Never seen a real 99RS in the later version Jim, if it turns out to be one can you send me some pics of it, I'd love to see the changes.

Wonder if they still used the slot blank or if they put a rear sight on them, also if they still used the flat bottomed sling studs or went with the sling eye's.

Someone should make a thread called -

"Post pics of your Savage 99 series!"

Cause there seems to be alot of individual threads dedicated to them.

Yeah pics!!! FYI at the April gun show in Kamloops I saw at least 7 or 8 99s. The pricing all ranged from $425-$550 and pretty well all of those were calibres I was not familiar with or did not have a DM. Saw a couple in the 250-3000 that were nice but then I found a cherry 308 99c and jumped on it. Turns out the guy standing behind me was a collector and would have taken it if I had not scooped it at that time. I paid $375 for mine. Might have been a little cheaper cuz the sights are off. Shoots 3in high and to the right at 100m but I plan to scope it anyways. I noticed the front bead was pushed to the right when I got it home and gave a better inspection but gunsmith was unable to find anything wrong that would accout for this. Barrel straight etc. I can see why people get caught up collecting these. Might even consider another one myself. That 250-3000 looks kinda fun....

Good one, lets maybe start one in the photo section of the board.;)

Here's some eye candy for now, a 1939 99RS in 300 Sav.

How much of an issue is cracking stocks @ the tang? Is there anything that can be done to prevent it? Epoxy or something?
Oh yeah, and I'm in the market for one o' those Lyman sights if somebody's got one...

No crack, I assumed it was caused by shooting. I'll just be careful.
Dang, I like this rifle. I see they made them in takedown. Uh oh, this is how my milsurp obsession started...
