Can a shot out .250 be rebored or barrelled to .300 Savage. Are the spools the same? This was once a TD model [made solid]so did they have different thread size?Thought about a take off .308 Win barrel set back and rechambered to .300 Savage. Not sure if this is practical?Or an Adams + Benett .257 blank?Harold

The rotors or spools are different. The early one's are marked the later one's are not. Some I believe are interchangable such as 303 sav to the 30-30 and the 22 hp to the 25-35 and the family of 308's. There is no such thing as a 308 take down barrel. Also the 308 later barrels have a different threads.

Have you considered having the barrel relined? I have a 25-35 that was relined years ago and it shoots perfect, barrel is still full length and it still looks original. I may have not even noticed if the previous owner hadn't disclosed that it had been relined (which I might add is the proper thing to do if you know that is the case).

My smith is doing a 243 barrel for me right now for a savage 99E. I would think that any competent gunsmith would be able to do it. You might want to post the general area where you are located.
