Does anyone have any suggestions on repairing a crack on amodel 99 stock. thr crack is about 2" long running from the receiver to the trigger and about1/2" up from the lever base. Is a crack like this repairable or should I be looking for a new stock?

IF you could post a pic it would be easier to say if it is fixable. Should be able to patch it without being too noticeable with acraglass or an epoxy.

Check out the Savage 99 site in this forum. Also suggest you contact Maddog who is posted on the same site. He is a collector. Good luck.

Might be fixable if it ain't to bad but finding a replacement factory stock will be pretty much non-existent depending on the year of the gun.

What serial range or model of 99 are we talking anyways?

The serial number is 682634. The rifle says Model 99, comes with the brass counter, pistol grip stock and schnable forend. Chambered in .300 Savage. Any info would be appreciated MadDog, thanks.

Re: Cracked Stock

I have a Voere/Mauser that had a similar crack. It was repaired by a gunsmith in Calgary. He glued and and dowel pinned the crack area the glass bedded the whole action area. The repair is visible but serviceable and shoots better than it did before the crack appeared.

It's a 1953 model EG, I'm guessing you should be able to spread the crack very lightly and then with a needle applicator get some epoxy in there and clamp it shut for the night, should hold.

Ted, I think they're talking about the thread in the hunting arms forum, not an actual forum here.......I friggan wish.

Okay, I didn't think we had a Savage 99 site here. Took a good look around the site after I saw the post, but no........:(

I'm like you, wish we did have one here.

Best,
Ted

Well, I make it a point to hit the 99 Thread in Hunting and Sporting Arms on occasion to keep it running. How much does it take to make it an official site then? Obvious there is enough interest. And I check in regularly to get some reading in.:)
