Savage 99 tang sights

Does anyone use these and if so how do you like them? I was wondering about a Marbles tang sight but am concerned about when it's folded down whether that will interfere with the pistol grip? Is factory tapped for tang and not for scope so I don't want to mess with it.
 
They work great and are very fast in the woods. I never fold mine down so there are no issues, removed the rear iron sight entirely. It is really dumb to me to look through an aperture sight down the factory irons .
 
I wondered if the rear sight would even interfere with the peep? I had both on a 94 Trapper with the open sights set at 100 yards and the peep at 200 yards.Worked fine so it would be nice to have both.
 
Well to answer your question, YES the tang sight folds down along the pistol grip. However when you are about to shoot the tang sight is up and does not interfer with the pistol grip.
So it's six of one and half a dozen of the other. It's simply something you will get used to. The tang sight is the best of open sights on these rifles.

The Lyman's go for about the price as the rifle. Sinclair has a 4 hole adjustable hunting disc/iris that screws into the sight.Just trying to decide which model I want.Brass came in the mail today and I picked up dies at the Calgary Gun Show at Easter.Had a .300 Savage 20 years ago and it shot real nice with Win 748 so that's the first one I'll test.
 
I really liked the windage feature on the Marbles. I never found the sight to be in the way.

I haven't used a peep much lately since I put scopes on my 99's using no-drill, no-tap mounts. But they are great for nostalgia and do aid in accurate shooting.
 
This is a nostalgia tour ,as I hit middle age+ I find myself drifting back to the old classic rifles I found boring as a youth. PS ........somethings don't change ,I still hate rap.

Savage vintage tang sights have a cool factor for displays and stuff but for shooting the new Marbles with windage work fine but there are other options. The old Lyman 29 1/2 or 30 1/2 are windage adjustable. Also, think about the older receiver style peeps that were made to fit the tang holes as well, like the Lyman 57SA and the Redfield 70L.
