I've been looking and noticed not only on here but other places and see the differences in values between certain models of the savage 99.
But what i don't understand and maybe someone could shed some light is that the 99C's with the detachable 4 round mag is going between $900 to as high as I saw $1250 and the 99f with the thinner barrel go for $500-$650.
Now I have both the 99C and the 99F in 308 and I feel like the 99f has more desirable features compared to the 99C such as holds 5 instead of 4, shell counter and lighter in weight to carry.
Is there reasons that the 99C is worth that much?
They are practically priced the same as the older 1899 in 3030 or 250.

I will go out on a limb and suggest the detachable mag models are favoured by road hunters who often stop and then drive again.

If you turn the prices around you'll be correct. The 99C is the less desireable of the 99. Below the 1 million serial number is similar to pre-64 Winchester. The 99F in 308 factory drilled for scope mount is my favorite.

People might ask 900-1250 for a 99c but, I'd doubt many are selling. 500-600 is areasonable expectation for the c and maybe a bit more for an f. Having said that , earlier 99 f's with the brass mag spool are more desirable than the later ones with aluminum.

Don’t forget the prices you see are what people are asking not what they are selling for. Often when someone sees a bunch of rifles advertised really high they think they can jump on the bandwagon and get a fortune for their rifle as well. Commonly they all go unsold.

Okay that's what I figured. It's odd to grasp that a model which lacks the features of what makes a 99 a 99 is priced more than one that has these desirable features.

I imagine some folks think that way but myself I can slip out of the truck, open the lever and press a cartridge down into the magazine quicker than fumbling with a detachable magazine. Works for me with both M70's and my 99F.

Condition, condition, condition.

I'd pay three times more for a 95% F than for a 50% C.

Mind you I've owned an F in 300 Sav and it kicked like a mule, got rid of it and bought an R in the same caliber, great ever since.

As for EG's in 300, they're like a Win 94 in 30-30, not hard to find and the most common model/caliber combination Savage put out, if anything should have a lower price than the rest it should be that.
