Savage 99

Did they make a 99EG or a 99R in .308 or can you only get the .308 in a 99C?? Also how hard is it to find .300 savage ammo at the retailer for hunting, is this going to be an obsolete cartridge reserved for only re-loaders soon??

Remington did chamber it's classic in 300 sav a few years ago.

I think it will be a while before it is hand loaders only, but it is very close to obsolete, and unless you have a store that stocks a large variety of ammo, you may have to have it ordered in.

Ya, you can. I've got an R in 308 that I got off Doug years ago. The numbers on the 308 R's are really slim. About 85% of the pre-mil 308's were model F's, 10% were EG's and 5% were R's. Mainly that means that there were about 6800 EG's made in 308 and about 3400 R's made in 308. I owned an EG in 308 a couple years ago to which now resides with another member here but what comes around goes around cause I got an R off him last year in 358 and I'm guessing they only made about 1000 or lower of them.

I've been looking around for a nice 99 in 308.
What are the differences between the various models - I've seen a lot of "E's" and a couple of "C's" for sale ??
Anything in particular to be aware of when looking at them ?

I had a 99 in 243 given to me its in good shape how much do you figure it would be worth (Ball Park).

99's

Iron Glove-> From what I can tell in my short time of owning a 99C there are a few differences. The 99EG and 99R came with the older style rotary magazine and I beleive they had a heavier and longer barrel than a 99C. The 99EG had a schnauble fore-end and the 99R had a "american" style rounded fore-end.

The 99C's were made later on and have a clip instead of the rotary mag, this is neither a plus or minus just personal preference. Allthough I am starting to like the looks and idea of the rotary mags alot more!! I think the 99C has a shorter and lighter barrel than a 99EG and 99R. You will be able to find alot of 99C's in .308 as they were the most popular. If anyone out there has or knows of a 99EG or 99R in .308 for sale let me know please.!!
