Savage 99

Some experienced reloaders suggested that .30-30 brass could be re-formed to .303 Savage. However, the re-formed casing might not last more than one firing, due to resulting expansion of the case forward of the rim. Other brass, like .30-40 Krag, or .307 Winchester, can also be reformed to .303Sav.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong but I thought the .307 Winchester could be reformed to .300 Savage?

It's .308 Winchester you're thinking of. I've done it - you lube the .308 Win empties and run them slowly through the .300Savage full-size die. Among other things, it changes the shoulder angle from 20 to 30 degrees. Then you have to trim off the excess neck length.

.307 Winchester is a rimmed cartridge that is a candidate for re-forming to .303 Savage, also a rimmed cartridge (described on savagela.org/page4.html). It looks like a fair bit of work. But assuming one is already "into" reloading, it may be an interesting project.
